RIVERS STATE: AAC DISSOCIATES FROM ILLEGAL CONDUCT OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS

PRESS STATEMENT

RIVERS STATE: AAC DISSOCIATES FROM ILLEGAL CONDUCT OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS.

URGES RIVERS PEOPLE NOT TO ENGAGE IN FURTHER ILLEGALITY.

The attention of the National Working Committee of the African Action Congress (AAC) has been drawn to a media clip emerging from a press conference by a group of people whose interest is to legitimize an illegality imposed on the good people of Rivers State, by assisting the State Independent Electoral Commission in the conduct of election into local council positions.
To add insult to injury, some of the persons involved in the press conference are impersonators of leaders of different political parties operating in the state. Anyone parading themselves as leaders of AAC in such gathering will find themselves to blame, as all steps within the ambit of the law will be taken against such elements.

Nigerians can recall that on March 18, 2025, an emergency rule, in the usual military style we have sworn to hate, was imposed on the people of Rivers and the Governor was suspended by the Tinubu regime. This unfortunate action which sparked different protests and legal actions across the country, was condemned by our party and remains condemned till today.

In the light of the unfolding events, we want to state categorically that as an ideological party, we won’t participate, or lay any strand of legitimacy on the illegality being perpetrated by power grabbers- Tinubu and his FCT lapdog, Wike.

If anything, the military ruler who was imposed by Tinubu should be shown the way out immediately. A supposed democratic process- a local government election – organized by a military ruler is a rape of democracy and blatant abuse of executive power and we will not be part of such illegality.

We urge other political parties and law abiding citizens in Rivers to desist from engaging in such illegal act.

Signed:

Femi Adeyeye
