The Lagos State chapter of the African Action Congress (AAC) has announced a press conference scheduled to take place on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.
The event will be held at Plot 16, Saratu Close, right after Araromi Bus Stop, Iyana Ipaja, Lagos.
According to the invitation signed by Folayemi Akinfolarin, Organizing Secretary, and Jedege Kehinde, State Secretary, the focus of the press briefing will be the state of local government elections in Lagos and what the party describes as the “lawlessness” of key state institutions.
Specifically, the AAC plans to address issues involving the Lagos State Government, the Lagos State House of Assembly, and the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC).
In their communication to the press, AAC officials expressed grave concerns over what they allege to be unconstitutional practices, disregard for due process, and manipulative tactics deployed by the state authorities to suppress genuine democratic processes at the local level.
The AAC leadership plans to use the platform to outline the ongoing injustices, propose corrective measures, and unveil new strategies to ensure that grassroots democracy is protected in Lagos State.
Members of the media, civil society groups, and the general public are encouraged to attend as the AAC reaffirms its commitment to transparent governance, electoral integrity, and the protection of the democratic rights of all Lagosians.
The press conference is anticipated to set the stage for broader political discussions ahead of upcoming local government polls and could signal heightened political activities in the state in the coming months.
The Gombe State Chapter of the African Action Congress (AAC) has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, demanding an immediate probe into the handling of the recent Easter tragedy in Billiri Local Government Area.
The party accused the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Billiri of shielding the driver responsible for the deadly incident and spreading false information to obstruct justice.
In a petition signed by the state chairman, Bobo Benson Bagwiba, and addressed to the Gombe State Commissioner of Police, the AAC expressed outrage over the DPO’s hasty and unverified claim that the accident was caused by a brake failure.
Copies of the petition were also sent to the Police Service Commission, the Zonal Assistant Inspector-General of Police, and the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Gombe State.
The fatal incident, which occurred on April 21st during an Easter procession, saw a truck plow into a crowd of Christian worshippers, resulting in multiple deaths and numerous injuries.
According to the AAC, instead of conducting a thorough investigation, the DPO rushed to release a public statement attributing the crash to “suspected brake failure” without any technical assessment or expert analysis.
However, the narrative shifted days later on April 25th, when police formally charged the driver with causing death by dangerous and inconsiderate driving—effectively contradicting the initial claims.
The party criticized the DPO’s premature conclusion, arguing that it undermined the investigation, misled the public, and shielded the driver from immediate scrutiny. They further alleged that several eyewitnesses reported the driver intentionally targeted the procession, testimonies which the police allegedly ignored or failed to document properly.
“The DPO neglected basic investigative procedures, failed to secure the crime scene, preserve critical evidence, or uphold due process,” the petition said. “This amounts to dereliction of duty and gross misconduct.”
The AAC also accused the officer of breaching provisions of the Nigeria Police Act, 2020, citing violations of Section 4 (general duties of the police), Section 24 (conduct of officers), Section 32(1) (accountability), and Section 66(1) (offenses by police officers).
Additionally, the petition argued that the DPO’s actions violated constitutional rights under Section 14(2)(b) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which prioritizes citizens’ security and welfare, as well as Section 15(5), which mandates the elimination of corruption and abuse of power.
The party also referenced Section 39(1), which guarantees citizens the right to accurate information, criticizing the DPO for spreading falsehoods.
The AAC demanded the immediate redeployment of the Billiri DPO, disciplinary action in line with police service rules, an official public apology, and a comprehensive review of the police’s investigative failures regarding the case.
“This petition is not solely about punishing an officer; it is a call for justice, accountability, and institutional reform,” the AAC emphasized. “No police officer should be allowed to abuse their position. Justice demands transparency, and the people must trust that their safety will never be sacrificed for convenience or cover-ups.”
Ayoyinka Oni, the Lagos State Chairman of the African Action Congress (AAC), has taken to social media to urge Nigerians to reject what he describes as the “criminal merger” taking place among the country’s old political class.
In a post shared widely on Thursday via his X handle, Oni wrote, “Tomorrow we decamp. Not alone, together with the masses, for the masses and to the masses.”
He criticized the attention given to reports of a small group of defectors aligning with a major party, stating, “I don’t know why you are bothered about some useless crooks not more than 100 decamping to a party that has ruined your life for over 10 years. You should be happy the two criminal parties which were always one are merging.”
Oni, known for his activism and grassroots mobilization, emphasized the AAC’s commitment to a mass-oriented political revolution. He urged citizens to join the AAC in a collective effort to dismantle entrenched political structures, saying, “You better join the party for the masses #AACParty and let us bury our oppressors all together starting from the day we are ready.”
In a call for strategic numbers and mass action, he added, “250 million Nigerians are too much, one million per state is enough, trust me, they would run.”
The Lagos State Secretary of the African Action Congress (AAC), Jegede Kehinde Olatunji, has reacted to the recent wave of political defections going on in Nigeria, warning that tribal and religious sentiments are blinding the public from holding the ruling class accountable.
“Would Nigerians really see?” Jegede questioned via a social media post, in response to the mass defection of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). “They have sold tribal barter to them and to deal with. Instead of them to agree that old politicians are the same, they busy singing tribal songs of abuse.”
The AAC Secretary also expressed deep concern over the growing ethnic and religious divisions in political discourse, especially on social media. “I don’t just know how some Nigerians [are] engrossing with tribalism. If you check social media now, the new trend is religion. All these are staged to keep them divided the more, for ruling class to get away with their impunity,” he added.
Jegede’s comments come amid a political shift in Delta State, where Governor Oborevwori, alongside his Deputy Sir Monday Onyeme, immediate past governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, several commissioners, House of Assembly members, local government chairmen, appointees, and PDP leaders, officially dumped the PDP and declared allegiance to the APC.
Human rights activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has vowed to end insecurity in Nigeria by addressing what he describes as its root cause — economic inequality.
In a recent interview with Symfoni, Sowore criticised the Nigerian political elite, accusing them of deliberately fostering poverty for personal gain while presiding over a corrupt and ineffective security system.
“They have failed and we have told Nigerian people, but they don’t want to listen to advice. They came here to take care of business — their own personal business,” he said.
Sowore declared that under his leadership, the Boko Haram insurgency would become a thing of the past. “If I am in their position at this time, there won’t be Boko Haram anymore,” he stated confidently. “We have to solve the problem by attacking the root cause. The root cause of insecurity is first and foremost inequality.”
He didn’t hold back in his criticism of Nigeria’s security leadership, accusing top officials of enabling criminality instead of stopping it. “The second aspect is to get our security agencies to do what security agencies do — not to be aiding and abetting criminality,” he added.
Sowore also stressed on the pattern of nepotism and lack of meritocracy within Nigeria’s military ranks. “We have all these military generals who don’t go to war. It is only in Nigeria that someone who has never fought in a war becomes a general in the army,” he said, noting that appointments are often based on ties to traditional rulers and religious leaders rather than military experience.
“You cannot have an IGP who is tired and ought to have retired and expect insecurity to end. It will not end,” he concluded.
Human rights activist and former Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore has fired back at Kenneth Okonkwo over his recent comments advocating for a political coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.
Okonkwo, in a statement published on Rueben Abati’s blog, claimed that anyone opposed to forming a coalition is an agent of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a sharp response, Sowore dismissed the coalition talk as a deceptive strategy, accusing Okonkwo and others of pretending to fight Tinubu while quietly working in his interest.
According to Sowore, many of the same figures pushing for unity among opposition parties are former members of the APC or have since aligned with the ruling party, making their intentions highly questionable, Sowore stated:
“They have resumed their gimmicks, meanwhile they are the ones @OfficialAPCNg is utilizing to eradicate genuine opposition to @officialABAT. @RealKenOkonkwo originated from @OfficialAPCNg, joined NgLabour party, and departed suddenly. Many of them, elected NgLabour personnel, joined OfficialAPCNg, not even those previously from OfficialPDPNig returned to their former allegiance. They are forming a spurious coalition, feigning interest in ousting a man they are all clandestinely supporting.”
Comrade Onyinye-Ghandi Chukwunyere, spokesperson for AAC National Chairman Omoyele Sowore, has declared that the ruling APC cannot win a free and fair election due to its poor governance record.
In an interview with Independent, Chukwunyere dismissed APC’s perceived dominance as “a myth” upheld by beneficiaries of the current system.
He cited rising inflation (33.2%), underreported unemployment, and worsening insecurity (15,000 kidnappings in 2024), accusing APC of manipulating institutions like INEC and the judiciary.
Chukwunyere referenced a poll showing 78% disapproval of President Tinubu’s performance and emphasized AAC’s focus on mobilizing Nigerians rather than relying on flawed electoral systems. He believes 2027 could be a turning point if citizens demand accountability.
Drawing parallels to EndSARS and the Arab Spring, he pointed out AAC’s commitment to grassroots organizing, insisting that APC’s power rests on voter apathy and institutional capture—not genuine support.
“Tinubu and the APC are not invincible,” he said. “The people have the power to change the system.”
Human rights activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has urged Nigerians to reject the traditional religious messages of forgiveness and redemption that will be preached by the political oppressors during this Easter.
In a statement shared on his social media platforms, Sowore urged Nigerians not to be swayed by what he described as “false statements” from their oppressors.
“Happy Easter ALL!” Sowore began in his post. “Our oppressors are still going to issue false statements lying to you that today is for forgiveness, redemption & rejuvenation.”
He continued with a firm call to action, challenging the core values often emphasized during Easter celebrations. “Don’t forgive them, they’re not redeemable, and the only path to rejuvenation is #RevolutionNow,” Sowore declared.
The Easter period, celebrated by Christians around the world to mark the resurrection of Jesus Christ, is typically accompanied by messages promoting peace, hope, and forgiveness.
Sowore’s message, however, calls for political awakening and revolutionary change rather than spiritual reflection.
Sowore, founder of the #RevolutionNow movement and publisher of SaharaReporters, has remained a vocal critic of successive Nigerian governments. His message appears to be a continued reflection of his stance on social justice, government accountability, and the need for systemic transformation in the country.

The African Action Congress (AAC), has issued a strong warning to the Ondo State Government over the planned demolition of Alagbaka Government Quarters in Akure.
In a joint press statement with the Take It Back Movement Ondo Chapter, released today, Wednesday 16th of April 2024, they condemned what they described as a “prodigal and anti-people” move by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and threatened mass resistance if the demolition proceeds.
The statement, signed by Akinnusi Emola (AAC State Secretary), Comrade Patrick (TIB Coordinator Ondo Chapter) and Kunle Wizeman Ajayi (Former AAC Gubernatorial Candidate), accused Governor Aiyedatiwa of acting in bad faith by disguising the demolition under the pretense of renovations.
According to the statement, several buildings within the Alagbaka quarters — currently occupied by civil servants — have already been marked for demolition without proper consultation or consideration for the welfare of the occupants.
“The excuse of renovation is laughable and fake,” the statement read. “Even historic buildings like the T.A. Iwajomo House, which remains structurally sound and was built in honour of the state’s first Head of Service, have been marked for demolition. This only confirms the governor’s ulterior motives.”
The statement revealed further that the governor has already sold the earmarked buildings to a private developer, with promises of estate units being dangled before lawmakers and political allies as incentives. They described the move as corrupt, self-serving, and a betrayal of public trust.
In addition, they criticized the governor’s administration for its handling of security challenges and poverty in the state, describing Aiyedatiwa as a leader more interested in personal gain than in delivering good governance. They also accused him of using state institutions, including the police and the Attorney-General, to clamp down on dissent.
A seven-working-day ultimatum was issued to the governor to halt the demolition plan and publicly apologize to affected workers. The AAC and TIB warned that failure to comply would result in coordinated mass action.
“Civil servants and residents must stand united,” the statement urged. “If the governor wants to build a housing legacy, let him move to available lands in Oda, Isikan, and across the local governments — not demolish a legacy estate built by the visionary Adekunle Ajasin.”
The statement concluded with a note of solidarity to citizens of the state, decrying the recent surge in insecurity, violence, and kidnappings, which they say have worsened since Aiyedatiwa “imposed himself” as governor.

PRESS STATEMENT
GOVERNOR AIYEDATIWA MUST STOP THE PLANNED DEMOLITION OF ALAGBAKA GOVERNMENT QUARTERS; OR FACE MASS ACTIONS FOR SUCH PRODIGAL ACTS!
The TakeItBack Movement (TIB) and the African Action Congress (AAC,) as well as well-meaning and concerned activists in Ondo State have been studying the situations at the Alagbaka Government Quarters, Akure for the past two weeks since the government has earmarked buildings that civil servants live in for demolition in the guise of some nonsensical and after-thought renovations.
Trying to appear unaware, the demolition is being fronted by aides of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa so that he would continue to appear naive, saintly, and innocent.
We are very sure that the demolition is being done by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa as he has sold all the marked buildings to a developer whose identity is being hidden. Same Akotileta Governor has also promised all the members of the House of Assembly and the Speaker two units of the planned new estates each. Greedy politicians are also being lobbied with units.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa neither cares for the spare of insecurities and the level of mass poverty in Ondo State. He only cares about his pockets. This is why he never had a real manifesto during campaigns, and has been using the police through Attorney-General Kayode Ajulo to arrest critics for the so-called cyber stalking.
As a movement and a party, we have conducted serious opinions from the affected civil servants, as well as even Labour legends and current Leaders. It is clear that the excuse of renovations is laughable and fake. After all, the beautiful edifice that is the T.A Iwajomo House is still shining and has been marked too for demolitions. T.A Iwajomo was the first Head of Service in Ondo State, and workers built the house to honour him inside the Alagbaka Government Quarters. But prodigals now do no care!
With this press statement, we give Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa seven working days to come public with apologies to the civil servants and workers living at the Alagbaka Government Quarters as many of them are now developing blood pressures with the sudden attacks on their accommodations as well as livelihoods. If Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is interested in having a Housing Legacy, let him move to the plenty bushes in Oda, Isikan, and other places and build worthy housing estates for the people there. He should also do this in all Local Governments of the state. After all, the Alagbaka Government Quarters is a legacy of the great Adekunle Ajasin which was built within three years of his government then.
We call on all workers affected to keep faith, stand strong, and keep united as we will be taking up mass actions as the deadline approaches. There is no cause for lamenting. There is nothing good that can come from a governor who spent #775million to repair a short fence at the same Alagbaka other than sorrow, tears, and blood (in the words of Fela!)
We also use this opportunity to once again solidarize with Ondo State people over the killings, kidnappings, and violences that have marred the state since Lucky Aiyedatiwa imposed himself on us last year. The time to unite and fight so as to take our beloved Sunshine State back is now!!!
Signed, Owolabi Patrick, TIB Coordinator.
Akinnusi Emola, AAC State Secretary.
Kunle Wizeman Ajayi, Former AAC Gubernatorial Candidate. 16th April, 2025.
