DSS Cannot Intimidate Nigerians Into Forced Patriotism – AAC

Nigeria’s main opposition party, the African Action Congress (AAC), has called out the Department of State Security (DSS) over its intimidation of citizens in favour of President Buhari.

The AAC in a statement released on Monday 3rd of May, 2020 and made available to the Press, says;

“IN THE ABSENCE OF SOCIAL JUSTICE, THE DSS CAN NOT INTIMIDATE NIGERIANS INTO FORCED PATRIOTISM”.

“It is no news anymore that the polity has been engaged by Nigerians with a lot of agitations for social, political, and economic justice.

“There is no over bloating that these agitations are being orchestrated across the full length and breadth of the country with Nigerians in diaspora not excluded. In the acceptance of the aforementioned, the Department of State Services (DSS) in a press statement released on 2nd May 2021 and signed by its Public relations officer, Mr. Peter Ifunanya has taken its usual uncivilized posture of heating the polity with threats and subversive statements against the constitutional rights of Nigerians to freely speak, assemble and protest against the unfortunate trend of insecurity, poverty, corruption and total lack of respect for citizenship. It is indeed unfortunate that this security outfit that has been grossly incapable of fishing out terrorists, bandits; ‘’unknown gunmen’’ both on our streets and inside government offices; such gross incompetence, that has turned the country into a hotbed of kidnappings, terrorism, and banditry has suddenly found its reed voice and has taken to the market to threaten Nigerians whom in a harmonious manner have passed a vote of no confidence on the tyrannical and anti-people Buhari regime. For a country that now ranks 3rd most terrorized nation in the world, it is rather pathetic that instead of addressing this ridiculous ‘’feat’’, the regime concerns itself with a misplaced priority of chasing after protesters and critics while empowering, protecting, and defending terrorists”. The AAC said in a statement which was signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Olorunfemi Adeyeye.   “It is evident that the DSS needs a course on democratic tenets and principles and how people’s rights to disagree must be respected. The act of drawing a red line to people’s rights must be condemned by all and sundry just as we have always maintained in the African Action Congress (AAC). As a party, we have long come to the conclusion that the Buhari regime is incapable of running a democratic and highly effective government guided by the rule of law. It is our position at the African Action Congress that the rights of Nigerians to freely assemble, organize and express themselves without any intimidation must be fully respected. We reiterate for the umpteenth time that patriotism cannot be forced on people who have been denied social justice”. The statement further reads.

On the State of Housing Market in Nigeria, at the University of Lagos.

We would increase the minimum wage of an average Nigerian worker to One Hundred Thousand Naira, so that an average Nigerian worker could afford a loan of Two Million Naira in order to own a house.The Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, Omoyele Sowore, has condemned the prevalent state of uninhabited houses overtaken by cockroaches and lizards while Nigeria suffers from a deficit of 17 million homes for it’s homeless population.

He made the rebuke while speaking at a Town hall meeting on Housing for Presidential candidates organized by the University of Lagos on Saturday, 12th of January, 2019.

Speaking at the event on the question as to if he will privatize government or public houses currently not in use, Sowore said:

“We will not give anymore of our public properties to private individuals. What we’re going to do is to take inventory of all the uninhabited public properties in Nigeria.

The ones that can be converted into hospitals will be converted into hospitals, the ones that can be converted into houses will be converted to houses and be given to workers, our federal workers.

“We would convert the federal government secretariat in Lagos  state to a public hospital. He added”

Blaming the housing crisis in Nigeria on failed leadership, he said:“The federal government of Nigeria is a wasteful government. If we do not reclaim this properties for the Nigerian people, it will end up in the hands of our ministers, governors, senators and other political leaders and thieves. The Nigerian property should be used by the Nigerian people and this is what we would do when elected”.Drawing parallels with Asian countries who rose from being third world countries to competing with European countries and the US and have overcome the housing problem, Sowore said:

“China planned ahead and built houses to the extent that they now have ghost apartments, Japan did it and so did Singapore and others.”

“So, do not vote in leaders who took off the roof over your heads, because they have no intention to build you houses for shelter” ~ the AAC Presidential candidate admonished.

“The chapter 2 of the 1999 Nigerian constitution suffers a major defect, because that particular chapter is ‘not justiciable’ in the court of law .”

“You cannot go to court to sue the Nigerian government for not having a home, that was why i said the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is a fraudulent document which was created by the military and imposed on us the Nigerian people.”~ Sowore quipped.

“The rich, the 1% of our population already have too much houses, so we are going to make sure that we take those houses with no one living in them from the owners.”
“Government must invest in shelter, and make sure that every Nigerian citizen must be entitled a place to lay his head at night, a home. Born in July 17, 1976, Dr Rabiu Ahmed hails from Jigawa State. He is an erudite academic and medical practitioner with up to 15 years of professional life.

His academic qualifications include a Medical Degree from Bayero University, Kano, and a Masters Degree in Public Health (MPH) from Leeds University, UK. He was the pioneer Dean of School of Public health, Federal University Dutse (FUD) from 2014 to 2015.

In addition to his teaching career and engagements, he has robust experience in public health policy formulation and was the head of health policy and health system strengthening units at Bayero University/Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital Kano, spanning from year 2011 to 2013.

He is a fellow of the West African College of Physicians (FWACP) and also the Royal Society for Public Health (FRSPH). Dr Rabui has received multiple awards for working tenaciously in the areas of maternal and child health, tuberculosis, HIV, and environmental health.
